Retherford Land & Livestock, LLC - 2024 Production and Herd Reduction Sale Catalog
Thank you for taking a deeper look. Four years ago we held a similar sale, and we have heard several success stories from those who took something home. For example, Greg Norman of Gladewater Farms paid $3,500 for a bred heifer that two years later sold with her show heifer calf as the top pair on their sale at over $14,000. The Storms family in Romney bought several bred heifers and cows, and they have raised several top selling heifers and show steers from that group. The Cooper family bought a bred heifer who raised a steer that was second in class at the 2024 NJAS. These are good cattle, with excellent genetics. There are many ET calves, and we have been using heifer sexed semen as well. The cattle are healthy, fully vaccinated and ready to work.
The cattle in our 2020 sale were priced from $2,750 to $5,000. At that time the butcher and feeder calf prices were half what they are today. At that time the cull cow prices were also around 30-40 cents a pound. We culled a 14 year old cow just three weeks ago that brought over $1,800 as a butcher cow at the sale barn. Our asking prices for this year’s sale still start at $2,750. There are several cows with Fall calves, and the price includes the pair. The calves at side include some real herd bull candidates if you want to raise one the economical way, but worst case they will command a price as an angus feeder calf at around $2,000 each early this Spring.
So, why are we selling cattle we like at these prices? We are between generations in the show ring. Even though we sold a heifer that just three years ago that won her division at the State Fair and also her class at the NJAS, and another that won her class at the Beef Congress, the majority of the people showing today simply have no idea of the decades of success behind this herd. While our sustained success in the 1980’s and early 1990’s is ancient history, between 2010 and 2020 we had 8 years with at least a reserve division banner from the Indiana State Fair, along with five class winners, a Div. and a Res. Div. champ at the NJAS, and multiple class winners and division champions in the Bred and Owned Show at the Indiana Preview every year until Blake aged out four years ago, including a Premier Breeder award in 2019. Dad and I still have the passion to raise cattle we like to look at in our pastures, and there will be grandkids someday! Until then, we don’t need 40 cows to have the fun we want to have, so we are offering this opportunity to claim the results of our efforts at prices that can easily be justified these days. Volume discounts are available.

Show Heifers – All Open
1. Winter 2024. Two excellent January ET calves, one by Stag Good Times out of a daughter of Proven Queen 615 (615 is the grandam of 24 karat!). The other January is a Blacklist out of MFA Lutton Maid, who is the foundation donor for the Miller Family in northern Indiana. The Blacklist will be shown at the Beef Congress; and both these heifers are future donors. We would love to find a partner out there who wants to also show them this Summer. Price depends on whether we retain ½ or just an embryo interest; but not more than $4,500.
2. Summer 2024. This group includes four ET May heifers. Two full sisters by JB Edge out of the Tag 43 donor who is also being offered for sale and described below. There is a super hairy 24 Karat out of the Tag 64 donor also being offered and described below. Last but certainly not least is a very green Hill Valley Reckoning out of our Elba donor (Tradition out of Silveiras Elba 7333, who was 2nd in class at the National Western and 3rd in class behind the 1st and 5th overall at the NJAS for Blake 5 years ago). These four youngsters have not had any creep feed and were weaned on October 10th, so they are certainly not at their best. However, their potential as show heifers and as cows is obvious. We would love to find a good partner who wants to really make a splash in the summer division this year. Priced from $3,000 to $4,500 depending on terms of sale.

Pairs – Cows:
12. Tag 203 – RL&L Lady Agnes 41H – AAA 19843011 – DOB 6/2/2020. Very unique pedigree, as she is out of a bull we purchased as an embryo on the Denim and Diamonds sale in Denver. He is by SIlveiras S Sis GQ and out of the TCC Beauty heifer Kade Patton showed to Division Championships at several National and State shows. Tag 203’s dam is the Tag 41 cow offered below. With perfect phenotype on both sides it is no surprise that she sells with a beautifully made and hairy July heifer calf at side out of Inferno that is good enough to show. Sells open, as we assumed the new buyer would want her bred on their schedule. Pair price - $5,500

Bred Cows:
15. Tag 36 – Silveiras Misti 9041 – AAA 19596840 – DOB 02/23/2019. Simply a beast of a cow. She is an odd duck on our place as she is actually a super numbered cow. However, she does go back to the Silveiras Conversion bull and their line of Elba’s on both sides of her pedigree. We bought her as a bred cow on the Silveira Bros. cow reduction sale in the Fall of 2022. She produced a high numbered bull calf that we sold for enough to pay for her twice over, and because she milked so well we put an embryo in her and she raised an excellent heifer calf for us last year. Her EPD profile is impressive for a high growth animal. Examined safe to Inferno due around 12/20/24. Price $3,250
16. Tag 41 - Patton Lady Agnes 429 – AAA 17849605 – DOB 1/13/2014 – Perfectly made daughter of HB Patton Superiority out of the high selling heifer ($9,200) on the 2011 Patton Angus sale. This cow has produced over $20,000 worth of heifer calves for us so far; and has 2 more on this sale. Examined safe due approximately 12/24/2024 to Inferno. Price - $2,750
