National Western Bull Sale Draws Crowd Angus enthusiasts consigned 32 lots to the 2010 National Western Angus Bull Sale, Jan. 14 in Denver, Colo. The annual sale, which is the only sale managed by the American Angus Association®, averaged $5,703. A panel of five judges including John Grimes, Hillsboro, Ohio; Brian McCulloh, Viroqua, Wis.; John McCurry, Burrton, Kan.; Darrell Stevenson, Hobson, Mont.; and Kevin Yon, Ridge Spring, S.C., evaluated the bulls and selected division and overall champions. Express Angus Ranches, Yukon, Okla., consigned the grand champion bull, EXAR Velocity 81213. The March 2008 son of EXAR Lutton 1831 first topped the late junior division before becoming the high-selling lot. Silver Reef Farms, Sedalia, Colo., purchased the winning bull for $22,000. Deer Valley Farm, Fayetteville, Tenn., consigned the reserve grand champion bull. Deer Valley Raven 8345 is a March 2008 son of B C 7022 Raven 7965 and was reserve late junior champion. Richmond Boruff of Boruff’s Creekside Farm LLC, Sparta, Tenn., and Lone Pine Farms, Monterey, Tenn., purchased the bull for $8,000. Other high-selling bulls included Riverbend Everready, consigned by Riverbend Ranch, Idaho Falls, Idaho. The August 2008 son of Connealy Onward was reserve intermediate division champion and was purchased by Highwood Angus, Highwood, Mont., and Rick Nemeth, Ludell, Kan., for $16,000. Wilson Cattle Company, Cloverdale, Ind., consigned WCC Master General U140, an April 2008 son of S A V Masterpiece 5289. The reserve spring champion sold for $15,250 to Flag Ranch LLC, Scottsbluff, Neb. A complete list of sale results is posted online at www.angus.org. |

Champions Named at 2010 National Western Stock Show Super Point ROV Angus Show Angus enthusiasts led 304 entries at the 2010 National Western Stock Show Super Point Roll of Victory (ROV) & National Angus Show, January 13-16 in Denver, Colo. Judge Brian Barragree, Absarokee, Mont., and associate judge Troy Thomas, Harrold, S.D., evaluated the 235 females, 65 bulls and four cow-calf pairs before selecting the champions. Dameron First Class claimed the grand champion bull title after first topping the junior division. Express Angus Ranches, Yukon, Okla., and Dameron Angus Farm, Lexington, Ill., own the April 2008 son of EXG RS First Rate S903 R3. Justamere Ranch LTD, Lloydminster, SK, Canada, owns the reserve grand champion bull. Justamere406S Panamajack336U is a January 2008 son of Justamere 253 Bada Bing 406S and first won reserve junior champion. |

Brian Finnestad, Lee, Ill., evaluated the 145 females and two cow-calf pairs before selecting champions. Heather Willis, Union Bridge, Md., led the grand champion female. SCC Mistique PFF 861 is a June 2008 daughter of SCC PVF Striker 612 and first won intermediate champion honors. Bcii Cami 569 was named reserve grand champion female. Jake Cunningham, Sheridan, Ind., owns the May 2009 daughter of Exar Lutton 1831. She first claimed summer calf champion. Mandy Richardson, Louisa, Va., showed the grand champion cow-calf pair. Champion Hill Georgina 6208 is a May 2007 daughter of Leachman Saugahatchee 3000C. Her calf is a May 2009 son of S A V Bismarck 5682. DAJS Sally 928 was named reserve champion cow-calf pair. Katy Satree, Montague, Texas, owns the February 2006 daughter of BR Midland. A May 2009 heifer calf sired by DAJS The Matrix 008 is at side. |
